The Leander project, which was developed in close collaboration between Andreas Gruber Architekten and the artist Leander Schwazer, rises up in the middle of an enclave in the forest. This three-storey building serves as a harmonious home and workspace for three generations. At the same time, it enters into a dialogue with the neighbouring agricultural buildings; the resulting ensemble stands as a model for the further development of building culture.
The architectural concept of the project is inspired by the infinite column of the sculptor Brancusi. This idea is realised in a carefully designed building whose form symbolises continuity. At the same time, the façade, which strives towards infinity, towards the sky, is enclosed by a gabled roof.
The outer shell of the building presents itself as a protective envelope in the form of timber cladding with a carbonised surface. This façade enters into a dialogue with the surrounding forest and blends seamlessly into the natural environment. The basic structure of the building is made of ecological mineral bricks, as these promise sustainability and longevity. Due to the high groundwater level and the danger zones of the neighbouring river, the ground floor rests on a mineral base and is accessed via a concrete staircase. No basement was built, instead the neighbouring existing buildings are used for this purpose in a sustainable manner.
This special building combines art, functionality and sustainability and creates a unique place to live surrounded by nature.
